STEAM PUMPSUsage Piston steam pumps are designed to operate being driven by both saturated and superheated steamat a temperature of up to 573 К (300 °C) under both stationary and movable conditions for pumping oil and oil products, liquefied hydrocarbon gases, fresh water and seawater, and other liquids similar to the above in density, viscosity, and chemical activity at a tem perature of up to 673 К (400 °C) depending on the make of the pump. The maximum concentration of solid particles in the pumped fluid should not exceed 0.2% (w/w). The maximum particle size should not exceed 0.2 mm. The pumps ensure infinitely adjustable control of delivery and of the outlet pressure in the range of 25% to 100% of the rated value by varying the steam pressure at the pump inlet. It is possible to control within said limits one of the parameters (either delivery or pressure) as well as the both parameters simultaneously. As to their design, there are manufactured two types of the pumps: ПДГ —Direct-acting, double-piston, doubleacting, horizontal pump; ПДВ — Direct-acting, double-piston, doubleacting, vertical pump. As to their usage, there are manufactured the following makes of the pumps: Н —For dark-oil products with the kinematic viscosity of 0.008х10–4 m2/sec to 8х10–4 m2/sec (0.008 St to 8 St)and the temperature of 273 К to 493 К (0°C and 220°C); НШ —Sludge pump; for dark-oil products with the kinematic viscosity of 0.008х10–4m2/sec to 8х10–4m2/sec(0.008 St to 8 St) and the temperature of 273 К to 493 К (0 °C to 220 °C) with w/w concentration of solid particles up to 2%and maximum particle size up to 8 mm; НГ — For oil products with the kinematic viscosity of 0.008х10–4 m2/sec to 8х10–4 m2/sec (0.008 St to 8 St) and the temperature of 273 К to 673 К (0 °C to400 °C); НГш —Sludge pump; for oil products with the kinematic viscosity of 0.008х10–4 m2/sec to 8х10–4 m2/sec (0.008 St to 8 St) and the temperature of 273 К to 673 К (0°C to 400 °C) with w/w concentration of solid particles up to 2%and maximum particle size up to 8 mm; Г — For liquefied hydrocarbon gases with the density of 480 kg/m3 to 700 kg/m3 and the temperature of 243 К to 313 К (minus 30 °C to plus 40 °С); Х —For benzene products, tar pitches, and dark-oil products with the kinematic viscosity of 0.008х10–4 m2/sec to 8х10–4 m2/sec (0.008 St to 8 St) and the temperature of 393 К (120 °С); С — Marine (ship) pumps, for pumping fresh water and seawater, dark-oil products and other liquids of similar chemical activity with the kinematic viscosity of 0.008х10–4 m2/sec to 8х10–4 m2/sec (0.008 St to 8 St) and a temperature of 278 К to 393 К (5 °C to 120 °С), and the pumps with the delivery of more than 100 m3/h are also designed to pump gasoline with the temperature of 273 К to 303 К (0 °C to 30 °C); О — General industrial purpose pumps; for pumping fresh water, dark-oil products and other liquids of similar chemical activity with the kinematic viscosity of 0.008х10–4 m2/sec to 8х10–4 m2/sec (0.008 St to 8 St) and the temperature of 278 К to 378 К (5 °C to 105 °С). The pumps are manufactured in the following climatic versions: Н, Нш, НГ, НГш, Г, Х, О — УХЛ4, Т5; С —УХЛ4 and, for installation aboard ships and for use inthe tropics, — ОМ5. Operation is allowed under the conditions of arrangement of categories 2 and 3 and at the temperature of not less than minus 15 °C. Explosionproof design, reliability in operation, infinitely variable control of delivery and outlet pressure, simple design and easy maintenance render this class of pumps indispensable for many production facilities. The ПДГ and ПДВ pumps are particularly useful when cheep steam is available, or there is no electric power supply, or when electric power may not be used for cetrain reasons (e.g., for fire safety reasons). Design The pump consists of two main portions: a steam engine and a hydraulic portion. The steamengine serves as a drive and the hydraulic portion comprises the pump itself. In each working cavity of the hydraulic cylinder of the pumps with the delivery of up to 60 m3/h there are provided one suction valve and one discharge valve and in the pumps with the delivery of more than 100 m3/h there are two suction valves and two discharge valves. Designation An example of designation of a steam pump: ПДГ 25/45 Б-Н-УХЛ4 ТУ 26-06-1584-90, where: ПДГ is the pump type by its design (piston steam pump, double-cylinder, horizontal — ПДГ; piston steam pump, double-cylinder, vertical — ПДВ); 25 is the rated delivery (m3/h); 45 is the outlet pressure (kgf/cm2); Б is the modernization index (first modernization — A; second modernization — Б; third modernization — В); Н is the make of the pump by usage Н, Нш, НГ, НГш, Г, Х,О, С); УХЛ is the climatic version (УХЛ, Т5, ОМ5); and 4 is the arrangement category, ТУ 26-06-1584-90 is the reference of the technical specification.
